What exactly is nutritional yeast and how is it different from baker’s or brewer’s yeast?
Nutritional yeast is an inactive strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Unlike baker’s yeast (used to leaven bread) or brewer’s yeast (used in beer), nutritional yeast is heat‑deactivated, so it won’t ferment or make dough rise; instead, it unlocks a savory, umami-rich flavor when dried and toasted.
Why do we call it NOOCHAS?
The word “nooch” is a playful nickname for nutritional yeast, widely used in foodie and vegan circles. We built on that by calling our blends Noochas: a nod to this much-loved ingredient, but reimagined with herbs, spices, and botanicals you won’t find in ordinary nooch. It signals both the familiar comfort of nooch and the crafted originality of our compositions.

What nutritional yeast do you use?
Our Noochas use organic inactivated Engevita nutritional yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), grown on enriched, purified molasses under strictly controlled conditions. It is certified organic by EU standards, never irradiated, free from pesticides, herbicides, additives, or trace cereal filler. This ensures a pure, savory base with real nutritional integrity.
Is your nutritional yeast enriched with added vitamins?
No. Many commercial nutritional yeast products are fortified with synthetic B-vitamins. We choose not to enrich. Our blends rely on the naturally occurring profile of organic yeast: clean, unaltered, grown on molasses without additives. This preserves both origin integrity and flavor clarity. Competitors often add vitamins to boost labels; which brings a risk of excessive intake of B vitamins.
